I’m a massive fan of greek wines and especially Xinomavro based wines. This wine from Alpha Estate is no exception to that feeling. 100 year old vines (vielles vignes) planted in 1919 with 24 months in French oak and a further 12 in bottle just makes this wine an absolute joy to drink. Normally compared to Barolo wines, the Xinomarvo is softened thanks to its bottle age but hold that light freshness that comes from the climate, and every bottle of a 2017 vintage from multiple producers of Xinomarvo stands out because of the warmer climate that year. Such a light wine but gives great length on the finish. Cherry strawberry, cedar, vanilla slight herbal notes tannins medium, acidity medium and wine is developing, in there intensity medium on the nose, flavour intensity medium plus, pomegranate on the nose dried cranberry , strawberry. Just a great wine at only €22 a bottle, it’s a steal.
